Standardization of water management information in The Netherlands

The Netherlands have a long history in water management. As a result there are numerous organizations involved in water management. Therefore the need for standardization was felt early in the digital era. The need for standardization resulted in the founding of the InformationDesk standards Water (IDsW) in 2003. Over the past few years IDsW has not only combined the old standards into a new one, but has also started the development of an exchange model and an integrated toolkit; the Aquo-kit. Both are based on (inter)national standards and are used for the Water Framework Directive reporting.
